013 Denim

The kick-off of 013 Denim took place on Friday 3 February 2017. This is a special initiative of seven Tilburg organizations from business, culture and education. Wolkat is one of those organizations. During this project, we will start collecting 3,000 jeans from Tilburg for the recycling and development of a new and unique Tilburg textile.

Wolkat has recycled all collected jeans into denim yarns. These threads are 50 percent of the raw material for 013 Denim. The other half comes from organic cotton yarn from India. By weaving the fabric, Wolkat brought the two yarns - warp and weft - together in a new denim fabric. The sustainable and innovative textile is then used in collaboration with students from ROC Mode Tilburg, Fontys Academy of Creative Industries and artists from the city for new Tilburg products and art.

King's Day 2017 was used as the moment to present 013 Denim to the city and Wolkat's ambition to restore Tilburg Textile City. The denim project is a perfect start to bring inhabitants of Tilburg and textiles back together. The project is also the perfect way to share how we can improve the polluting textile industry together.
